"You never go wrong if you work with people who are smarter than you." -- Michael Bierut
aaaand I'm looking forward to talking through my personal project with the folks in New Media...
Note: Ask Andrew how to past a widget in to WordPress; pasting the code into the "Text" section apparently doesn't work.
Here's the Pinterest Mood Board, hopefully others will agree that it's cohesive and doable despite being eclectic. It's heavily inspired by messier styles including Comic Books from the 90s, 70s-80s Polish Poster Art, Ralph Steadman, and Mid-Century Russian Poster Art.
The plan is to have larger, fuller projects (movie posters / spec dvd and vhs covers) in the bolder style (Shogo Ota, Jay Shaw, Vintage Posters) and individual notes, stories, and sketches in the more grayscale, thin-line sketchy style (Ralph Steadman, Alasdair Gray, Sam Kieth).
I've recently discovered that messy doesn't mean quick or easy--even Alasdair Gray's effortless sketches likely took time, if not in actual production, in the years of developing his skills.
Case in point: I tried to capture two great biographical film experiences, Uber drivers taking me to the movies. It seems universal that they'll ask what movie I'm seeing and then try to remember the last movie they saw in the theater. It'd be cool to compare their ages / backgrounds / stories in neat illustrations... if only I could illustrate.
My goal is to become more visually articulate, to develop my own style (whatever that may be), and to express my feminist cinephile
Back to the drawing board (literally).
